Title: Sweet Emotions (Book Two of The Song Trilogy)

Author: Jan Bornstein
Publisher: Back Channel Press
Release Date: January 2008
Price: $13.95
Length: 303 pages

It’s fun to curl up with a copy of People magazine and spend some quality time with your favorite celebrities. Sweet Emotions by Jan Bornstein provides a similar celebrity fix. The book, a follow-up to Beyond Beautiful, reintroduces us to music superstars Scott Tenny and Jenna Bradford. One of the strengths of the book is the appeal of these two main characters. These are not perfect people and their relationship is not without its bumps. Still, Sweet Emotions is basically a year in the life of one couple on a journey from strong attraction to true love.

Scott, the front man for Blacklacea rock band in the style of Aerosmith and Van Halenis a legendary rocker who has survived years of excess. Sexy, beautiful Jenna, with the voice of an angel, is also a survivor. Her painful years of sexual abuse were explored in the previous book. Although deeply in love, she still faces issues of intimacy in her relationship with Scott. Both keep too many secrets in hopes of protecting the other.

Scott and Jenna are living together and at times working together, trying their best to blend their voices and balance their strong personalities. They face many unsuspected challenges in their new life together. Will they have the child together they truly desire? Will they marry and live happily ever after? Will health concerns derail their careers?

Along the way Bornstein takes the reader backstage, on stage and to the Grammy Awards in this insider’s look at the music industry. This is a tour the author seems quite comfortable leading, another plus for the book.

Sweet Emotions provides a wide range of supporting characters: his band, her band; his family, her family. Plus doctors, reporters and cops. At times it’s best to ignore all the extra names. If they are important they’ll show up again. In the case of Scott’s father and Jenna’s mother, they have their own sweet love story to tell.

Scott and Jenna’s relationship is strong on passion. The book details the kisses, cuddles and other preludes to lovemaking, which are at times tender and at other times very sensual. But the reader is not invited to the main event. The door closes and we’re only invited in again for breakfast.

Still, Sweet Emotions is such a satisfying read, you’ll be looking forward to book three.
