Jan Bornstein and her rock star lovers, Jenna Bradford and Scott Tenny, are back in the third and final book of The Song Trilogy. Jenna and Scott, both of whom come with several moving vans worth of problems, are no less complicated in Deuces Are Wild. Now the parents of a preemie they struggle to hold their family together. This is not an easy task when each has a demanding career and numerous challenges in their personal lives. Bornstein intensifies those challenges in this installment with heaping doses of betrayal, blackmail, kidnapping and murder that will keep the reader turning page after page to the trilogy’s unforgettable ending. Despite the couples flaws—or maybe because of them—Jenna and Scott have always been a couple that readers care about. It also helps that their romance has never been formulaic. Another plus is former singer/band manager Bornstein expert take on the music industry and its megastars.

Deuces Are Wild is also the hottest offering in The Song Trilogy. In the first two books the love scenes often play out behind doors. With this book, Bornstein takes the reader along for some of the couples most intimate moments. This addition only enhances the fantasy of living and loving like a rock star.

Because the book covers a number of years in the couple’s lives the storytelling comes across as episodic. This is not necessarily a bad thing since the focus of the book isn’t so much the plot as the ups and downs of the couple’s romance. However, there are times when the reader might feel some episodes deserved more coverage. A romantic trip to Hawaii is dispatched so quickly it seems superfluous. An upcoming murder trial that seems to have a lot of impact on one character’s behavior is summarized too briefly after the fact. And the couple’s baby boy is walking and talking before we realize how much time has passed.

Overall, faithful readers will enjoy this final visit with Jenna and Scott. Many issues from the earlier books are resolved, but there are also many unexpected twists that will take everyone by surprise.
