Arrow Publications Now Distributes Other Publishers and Authors Content for the iPhone
Reading a romance story is an intimate experience, especially using your iPhone in a crowded place. No one can really see what has you so enthralled on your brightly lit screen. Your romantic and erotic reading pleasures are almost totally hidden from prying eyes. After all the iPhone is such a small device—smaller than a book and smaller than most electronic readers—and so easy to use.
And iPhone users are voracious. They want content, content and more content. So, why shouldn’t they have access to your content? No reason at all, which is why Arrow has decided to assist other publishers and authors in getting their books into the Apple App Store. Soon the savvy young commuter with her eyes glued to an iPhone will be reading your book.
Arrow Publication’s App Program for Publishers and Authors—It’s Not Just Romance
“We have learned a lot from developing our own apps and can assist other publishers and authors in getting their own titles into the App Store,” explains Pat White, CEO and publisher of Arrow Publications.
The titles that Arrow distributes are not limited to romance fiction or graphic novels. Arrow will consider any title—graphic novels, comics, short stories, novels, non-fiction, self-help or other publications—for which the publisher or author owns the rights.

If your girlfriend or wife has a birthday coming up you can confidently wrap up a selection of books with a bright pink ribbon according to our readers. More than 50-percent voted that they love to receive books as gifts. If you are not good at picking out titles, then 40-percent of readers think gift cards are appropriate for your special someone.
Not long ago the blog world was on fire with the question of whether it was okay for Harlequin Enterprises to launch a new vanity press venture. Our own Poison Ivy wrote about Feathers Ruffled in Romance Land on MyRomanceBlog. While Harlequin had to rethink the venture’s name and even lost its standing as a recognized publisher with the Romance Writers of American, just over 52-percent of our readers felt that self-publisher was not so bad. However nearly 40-percent sided with RWA in giving Harlequin's new venture the thumbs down.

Congratulations to Mil Fenske of Knoxville, Tennessee, the latest Grand Prize Winner in the Ladies Night In contest
Mil Fenske, a self-proclaimed contest lover, has been participating in the Ladies Night In contest almost since it started. Her diligence has paid off in the past since she’s been a weekly winner more than once. This is the first time that she’s won the Grand Prize. “I was so delighted,” she responded when notified of her win. “What a way to begin the New Year!”
Mil has been married for 30 years and has two stepchildren and two grown grandsons. She tells us she and her husband plan to use the BedandBreakfast.com gift card at a B&B in Sevierville, TN to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary in May.
“Our daughter and her husband have stayed there and have told us that it is wonderful. They highly recommend it. And, of course, we will use the $250 to complement our stay.”
Retired for eight years, Mil keeps busy volunteering at her church and in her community. Besides contests, she enjoys gardening, surfing the net and reading. She adds that entering contests and reading are enjoyable ways to spend a night-in at home. A fun night-out includes eating out and visiting with friends. When asked how her best friend would describe her, Mil responded, “conservative, serious and ambitious.” She goes on to describe her self as hardworking and someone who “walks the talk.” It is likely this consistency and dedication that earned Mil her spot in our winner’s circle.
Mil's Grand Prize package contains a $250 gift card from BedandBreakfast.com, $250 in cash, a signed copy of The Christmas Secret by bestselling author Donna VanLiere and a Wine Country Spa Gift Basket with an assortment of bath products for a total prize package valued at $565.00.

Do Book Titles Reveal That We Desire the Same Things as our Ancestors?
Two Canadian researchers have written a paper entitled, "The Texas Billionaire’s Pregnant Bride," for the Journal of Social, Evolutionary and Cultural Psychology, which examines whether our mating preferences have changed over the last thousands of years. To answer this question, Anthony Cox of the Centre for Psychology and Computing, Dartmouth, Canada and Maryanne Fisher of the Department of Psychology, St Mary’s University in Nova Scotia looked at the words used in some 15,000 romance titles published by Harlequin between 1949 and 2009. If these titles do reveal our inner most desires then just like our earliest ancestors we are looking for love, marriage and children.
Cox and Fisher also looked the most frequently appearing professions in Harlequin romances and found that women must be looking for marriage with either a doctor or a cowboy. If that lucky young lady is a nurse from Texas then she should hear wedding bells by Christmas. In case you are puzzled by this leap in thinking—nurse was the third most popular profession in the study and both Texas and Christmas made the top 20 list of frequently used keywords. So it seems our desires are very basic and ageless, or at least that is what the people at Harlequin are trying to sell us. You can read the paper for yourself in the Journal of Social, Evolutionary and Cultural Psychology.
